Report by Ian Mackrell

The winning run for Burpham continued. Nothing like this has happened for years!

A lovely evening on Wednesday, June 20 was the setting for an evening fixture against local rivals Castle Green.

Sue Gorman in full concentration, verses Castle Green Bowling Club.

They had only nine players for a scheduled four triples match. We dropped three players on the day, allowing a fair game to be played. There were as many Burpham supporters as players, as this match was oversubscribed at Burpham!

Colin Holbrook pointing at the shot wood, verses Castle Green Bowling Club.

The home team ran out winners 71-32 shots, and after the match an excellent meal was served in the clubhouse.

The following day Burpham travelled to Horsell for the Knaphill Triples league, and ran out winners 37-24 shots.

It was not as easy, initially, as the score indicates, as we needed a few ends to get our eye in.

Club fixtures secretary Linda Macbeth demonstrated how left handers deliver a wood in the match verses Horsell.

Their green was irregular, uneven and had patches without grass.

Unfortunately for Horsell, on the back of that defeat, we hosted the full five triples Horsell team on Saturday, June 23 in a friendly mixed match at Burpham.

They’ll probably will be reviewing their fixture list next year, as, once again, they lost by 95 to 69 shots to Burpham.

The glorious sunshine, the excellent playing conditions – and, maybe, the wonderful food provided – meant that Burpham enjoyed excellent home support from many spectators. Support, for both home and away matches, is really appreciated.

David Hart at Hook & Southbourne, Saturday, June 30.

Burpham continued its unbeaten run in the West Surrey league, winning 5-0 points and 61 to 44 shots, away, against Hook & Southbourne on Saturday, June 30. Burpham are top of the division and are determined to remain there.

Earlier in the week, the Tuesday GW & D triples league team hosted Stoke Park and won handsomely against by 44-27 shots.

The following day, Wednesday, June 27, we hosted Westfield to a four triples evening match. Glorious weather certainly suits Burpham, who ran out winners by 64-61 shots.

Carolyn Hart in  full concentration at Woking Park on Thursday, June 28.

Not to be outdone, the two Burpham Knaphill Triples league teams both won the next day, June 28 – the “A” team beat Camberley by 33-31 shots, whereas the “B” team, away to Woking Park, came out convincing victors by 44-27 shots.

The wonderful weather and playing conditions produced a splendid win for Burpham ladies against Castle Green ladies on Friday June 29, with Burpham running out winners 20 to 10 shots. Well done Burpham ladies – keep up the winning streak.

Our internal competitions are in full flow. Some 291 entries this year! A record.

A thrilled Glenda Mogg says “thumbs up” as she displays her convincing win over club member Bert Forrest.

The wife of club captain Alan Mogg, Glenda, had a convincing win over veteran Bert Forrest. Never one to be shy, Glenda proudly displayed the final result for the whole world to see. Let the record show that Glenda secured a 23-5 win.

However, our winning streak was halted by none other than club captain Alan Mogg’s old club, Auriol.

The return match, a friendly but played for the Hazel Williams Trophy at Burpham on Sunday, July 1, produced a very tight game.

The earlier match at Auriol was a drawn with Auriol this time running out winners 76-71 shots. Revenge is sweet – and captain Alan Mogg has now no choice but to face the music and challenge his old club to regain the trophy next year.
