Latest Update On Kessie’s Special Bath After Successful Fundraising Appeal

In August 2018 The Guildford Dragon NEWS highlighted the case of a single mum from Guildford who pinned her hopes on generous people to help her raise funds to buy her daughter who has Rett’s Syndrone, and who needs 24-hour care, and son with autism, a special bath.

A successful crowd funding appeal was set up by reader Su Johnston with the target of £5,000 being raised by October.

Here, Su gives an update as plans are now coming together to install the much-needed bath.

Having raised enough pledges to buy the bath (thank you all), the amazing Jo Love at Love Interiors stepped in to offer to do everything needed to get the bath properly installed. More than that, they are designing a new bathroom around it.

A plan of the new bathroom.

As you can imagine it’s not simple. There’s a ton of dialogue between Love Interiors’ design team and Kessie’s care team and the relevant authorities to make sure that they’ve taken her needs and the needs of the family fully into account, and have the right permissions in place. Above is just one of the drawings I’ve seen as part of that.

Love Interiors have also secured the agreement of one of their clients to supply a building team and a project manager to oversee things – but again you can imagine that there are one or two steps to making sure it’s all approved and correct. You may also remember that the Bath Store responded to one of our pledgers (Helen J) with an offer of free tiles and flooring – that’s also still part of the mix.

It’s all a bit bigger than we first planned and taking a bit more time. The end result will be far better than we’d hoped but we’ll keep you posted about progress and hope that the next phase happens very soon now.

Many of you who pledged for rewards were already connected to the company offering the reward but I’m keen to make sure that you have all received your reward. Please let me know if that’s not the case “there’s many a slip between lip and cup”.
