Voluntary Action South West Surrey has launched a new service in which people can volunteer to give much needed short-term assistance to others on a wide range of practical tasks.

Examples being: shopping for someone who is housebound, accompanying a person to an appointment, light gardening or simple DIY work, help with food prep or cooking, form filling and paperwork, going for a walk with someone, swimming or other activity.

This volunteering is flexible, so that you can help others while able to continue with other commitments you may already have. Travel expenses can be reimbursed.

The project is called Volunteer Buddies, and once signed up Voluntary Action will use the service(s) you offer to match you to someone when they request some help. You will then be contacted to see if you are available.

Voluntary Action’s Community Point service and its social prescription team will making referrals to the Volunteer Buddies project on behalf of people in the Guildford and Waverley areas who have asked for help.

Volunteer Buddies is being co-ordinated by Voluntary Action’s David Rose. For more details call him on 07825 419408, email d.rose@vasws.org.uk
