Having lived in the same area all my life I have always travelled on Safeguard Buses, so it was a trip down memory lane to see them at Guildford Cathedral on Saturday.

I also saw one of the old conductresses and had a chat with her. When I was a child the buses only went as far as Foxburrows Avenue, reversed and went back into the town. The door was in the centre of the bus and there was always a conductor or conductress, I remember in particular Harry and Rose.

In later years, a Mr and Mrs Ball worked together as driver and conductress. Two other drivers I remember were Brian (who I believe was Rose’s son) and Ron. One of the drivers used to dress up as Father Christmas. I’m not sure he would be allowed to do that these days.
