Letter: Any Advice for a Birdwatching Trip to the Scilly Isles?

The Scillonian III ferry at St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly.

From Alan Gilbertson

In response to: Birdwatcher’s Diary No.197 and Thanks to My Encouraging and Correcting Readers

I live in Horsley and I have two friends who are keen on birds. They know all the names and so on; I just go along to enjoy the birds regardless of the species.

We have ambitions to go to the Isles of Scilly but are unsure how to get there and where to stay.  Could Dragon columnist Malcolm Fincham make any suggestions or recommendations following the trip he has reported?

My advice for Alan Gilbertson is: the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company offer flights and a ferry to the Isles of Scilly. The ferry sails from Penzance and you can fly from Land’s End Airport (a fantastic small Airport with very smart facilities), Newquay Airport and, between March to October, Exeter Airport as well.

I hope this helps; the Isles of Scilly are a very special place to visit.
