Letter: Can We Still Have the Housewives Race?

He doesn’t look like a housewife! He
looks like an extremely determined
pancake tosser!

From Ian Redpath

Please help!

We organise the Guildford Pancake Races and will be doing so again this year.  We won’t be having any walk on girls in cowboy boots and hats so that’s OK, I guess.

The question that is about to raise a Twitter storm (@jubileetrust) is; “Can we still call the Housewives Race the Housewives Race”?!  Should it be the “Housepersons Race”?  I am quite uneducated in this modern world of (what some may call over the top) PC and I am lost and need advice.

Would your readers please let me have your thoughts so that we don’t upset anyone on the big day – 11:00AM 13th February in Guildford High Street. Send them to: pancakes@charlotteville.co.uk.

We are raising money for The Prostate Project (I know it’s for men’s health but it is also for family wellbeing! I do hope that’s OK with everyone out there?).

Is it correct that you will be obliged to pay the council for a few hours use of the Guildhall? This would have to come from the funds raised for the Prostate Charity. Surely they cannot be that mean? How much are they asking for?
