In response to: Village Association Chair Pleads His Case to Keep Path Open
Like Lorimer Burn, I have been walking this path for over 30 years – since moving to Guildford in the 1990s. The view is spectacular, one of the best from the North Downs. The loss of this facility to walkers in the local community is extremely sad.
Whilst all concerned will have sympathy for the Loseley Estate and the tenant farmer, it is surprising that there has been no dialogue with the local community before blocking the paths.
The nearby Hampton Estate have used grants to actually create footpaths over their land which protect “the crop”, wildlife and ensure access.
Given the importance of preserving access to this wonderful view, couldn’t the Loseley Estate adopt a similar approach?

And then there were seven. (See article: "Lib Dems Remain Puzzled By Leader’s Decision to Sack Executive Member")

Lorimer Burn

I thank John Evans for his observation.
I’ve recently become increasingly aware of the difference in approach to engagement with the Community between Hampton and Loseley. It is stark.
I’m seeking to learn more of how Hampton do this.
The South Field Steering Group WhatsApp is in particular, researching the availability of grants from many bodies for footpaths and fencing, meaning it doesn’t need to cost the landowner anything to provide controlled access.
These are early days.
