In response to: Implying I Am Not Motivated to Serve the Community Is a New Low
Cllr Spooner’s two-fronted attack on me is totally without foundation or evidence.
Firstly, I said nothing about him not being motivated to serve his local community, I stated that “a complete lack of party political motivation is a real plus and local councillors should primarily be there to serve their local community”.
As far as I’m aware, he serves his South Ash & Tongham ward well, after all, they seem about to get a £22 million road bridge. But his wider political involvement does not always serve the people of Guildford as they would wish, hence the widespread dissatisfaction with the badly conceived Local Plan. This is generally put down to his adherence to the current Tory government’s slavish support of the housing construction lobby in this country.
The choice to build around half of the inflated local housing need figure in the green belt also smacks of there being another motivation in play rather than heeding the voice of his voters.
On his other point, that despite my constant personal public attacks I am “at the same time smiling and explaining in the council that it’s all in the name of politics and not really meant”. We both know that is a complete work of fiction and that he has not a shred of supporting evidence as none exists.
I do confess to smiling a lot generally I must obviously try to control that in future!

Mr Spooner only deplores other people’s conduct when he perceives that they are ‘off message’, in other words, not supporting his plans.
His habitual response is to tackle the person, not the ball. When his policies are criticised he construes this as an attack on his motives and pretends indignation at behaviour, of which, he himself is the best example.
Mr Spooner would earn respect if he argued from the evidence rather than rounded on the individuals.
