Letter: GBC Are ‘Compromised’ On The Solar Farm Issue

From Ramsey Nagaty, Chair Guildford Greenbelt Group

See: Solar Farm Decision Will Not be Called-In

GGG are disappointed in the Secretary of State’s decision not to call in the Solar farm application, 24/P/00441.

This application impacts nationally as it affects the National Landscape (AONB) and good quality farmland .

The Local Planning Authority is not appropriate to consider the application as GBC are compromised, being an interested party. GBC stand to gain from the ransom strip they own, which will be crossed to build the Solar Farm and for the cable route.

This is not a truly green project, even opposed by the recent Green Party candidates for the GBC and SCC Council elections. There are more appropriate sites including over the university car parks and buildings than fields of outstanding natural beauty, havens for wildlife and prime agricultural land.

The cable route proposed goes illegally close to at least two main badger setts. It does not connect to the National Grid and Surrey University will still pay SSE.
