Letter: How likely Is It Taylor Wimpey Will Listen to Local Views?

In response to: Second Normandy Survey Shows Huge Opposition to Plan for 950 Homes

I see that Normandy Parish Council has now published the slides from Sunday night on its website, here: https://normandyparishcouncil.gov.uk/housing-proposal-feedback-survey/.

They expose just how outrageous was Taylor Wimpey’s claim before their second engagement event last month that they “…were encouraged by the response to the initial vision this summer. Feedback supported the creation of two landscape-led, sustainable neighbourhoods that reflect the local character of their areas.”

What does this tell us about the likelihood that they will listen to the views of local residents as they develop their planning application?

About as likely at President Putin’s Press Officer reporting the truth.

Learn from Ockham and the experience its residents’ campaign groups, Wisley Action Group and Villages Against Wisley New Town.

Taylor Wimpey’s public consultation there was conducted entirely by a London PR agency whose job it was to field and defeat any objections. This included admitting to recruiting dozens of international students in Guildford to sign a template letter supporting the TW project once many hundreds of objections started to be filed. There was only one other letter of support, from the boss of Buglife, a charity receiving funding from Taylor Wimpey.

As far as I can see, the entire consultation was a box-ticking sham, designed to meet minimum legal requirements while falsely claiming public support and preventing any modification of the developer’s original plan.

This whole dismal story was intermittently covered in The Dragon, though not as prominently as it should have been.
