In response to: Prostate Charity Offers Free Testing Session To Mark World Cancer Day
I cannot recommend getting checked for prostate cancer strongly enough. I had no symptoms, but a health check through work (my GP having talked me out of having a precautionary PSA even though I was in my early 60s). The test showed a high PSA.
After another test through my GP confirmed the high reading, I was seen by the Stokes Centre at the RSCH. Like Martin Giles I had brachytherapy. That was five years ago, my PSA is now 0.034. I cannot speak to highly of the Stokes Centre team they were very understanding when I was hesitant about which treatment to have and are very friendly.
When I was first diagnosed I passed the information on to my fellow retired colleagues’ WhatsApp group and as a result of my announcement several of them got checked and two were diagnosed with early stage PC as I had.
