Letter: Locals Would Rather Complain Than Be As Proactive As Travellers

Locals had plenty of opportunity to buy this specific land when it was up for auction earlier in the year, the fact is they didn’t.

You would have imagined that after what happened with the Wisley Airfield drama locals would have been more proactive in buying up available local land but it appears they would rather spend their time complaining than being proactive.

Will these same locals be speaking up about the destruction of oak trees etc.. up by the send shell garage by that development company that has been causing traffic chaos whilst felling them for the last week or so? I doubt it.

I personally think, if members of the Traveller community need somewhere to live and have been proactive and purchase land to live on that whilst our government is pushing for increased housing, they should be allowed to live on this site, on condition that they work with the council and locals to make sure everything goes as well as possible for all involved.
