In response to: Portsmouth Roadworks Uncovers ‘Dodgy’ Electrical Cable – More Local Roadworks Due

Many of the residents in Guildown and Beech Lane are not happy with the announced plan for roadworks in Guildown Road.

Neither are residents living on the unadopted section of Chestnut Avenue, which although not being suggested by Surrey County Council as an alternative route, will be the only access for residents, construction vehicles and deliveries to any address beyond the works.

The reason for the closure is to allow utilities to be connected to a new house.

I understand many residents have already sent in objections to this and I will also be objecting.

This is a separate issue from the Portsmouth Road closure.

Signs have suddenly appeared announcing the proposed closure of Guildown Road from 11 August leaving about 100 houses having to use the unmade road in Chestnut Avenue for car access and effectively cutting off access from emergency services and refuse collection.

It seems that the closure is to allow a sewage connection to a new house.

There has been no advance consultation, and residents are urgently seeking review from GBC and SCC authorities.
