From Jo Rew

chair of the Onslow Village Residents Association

Many Onslow Village residents will be greatly saddened to learn that all the access points to the walk along the top of the fields on the South side of the Mount, that offers such wonderful views across the Surrey Hills, have recently been blocked.

Signs have been erected explaining that they are creating a ‘dead hedge’ by coppicing the hedgerow.  The signs state that the dead hedge is to provide a wildlife habitat, sustainable waste management and soil enrichment.

Unfortunately it also very successfully prevents access to the path.

Lorimer Burn, chair of St Catherine’s Village Association, is facilitating a meeting with a representative from Loseley Estate to see if an arrangement can be made to regain access.

OVRA has pledged its support and will work closely with Cllr Angela Goodwin and the St. Catherine’s Village Association in this endeavour.

Meanwhile, Lorimer has written an letter to The Guildford Dragon NEWS which sets out the current situation.

It’s important for Loseley to understand how much the path was valued by the local community so we are urging people to email  Loseley Estate to express their views. Their email is info@loseleypark.co.uk.
