From Bernard Parke
Since last June I have been seeking information on the Onslow park and ride shuttle bus service.
In the past I received information without reverting to a freedom of information request.
Unfortunately, I regrettably had to take this route after many months of asking.
Writing as a council tax-payer I find it difficult to understand the remarks made in the reply.
It is written that the cost of running the service is “nil”, which is surely misleading to say the least.
The question should now be asked if it is permissible for any costs to be set off against pay and display parking in Guildford?
If so has Surrey County Council agreed to this?
It should be considered that, what I think is an under-used service, also adds to pollution and the town’s congestion problems.
Last week they were using double-decker buses which were often empty!
I believe that work on the site’s barrier system is still ongoing, despite the service being in operation since 2013.
During this period there has been no control on those using the site to park their vehicles without using the shuttle service.
If a charge had been made for this kind of parking over a four-year period, it would have contributed a considerable amount to help the council tax payer.
Such parking is not permissible as the £4 million grant was made for park and ride and for no other purpose.

I have read the response, and it is simply nonsense. What gives GBC the right to set off such costs against unrelated income, so as to declare the cost is nil. Such obfuscation brings the council into disrepute.
Sadly, this is typical of the arrogance of the executive and council officers, who have nothing but contempt for concerned residents.

Residents should be grateful that Bernard takes up so many public issues, but why are our elected councillors not doing so?
One seldom sees them in print these days. Why?
