Letter: This Teenager Seems to Have a Better Grasp of the Realities of Council Reorganisation

Harley Davey-Harper has written to local MPs, warning against West Surrey being lumbered with debt.

In response to: Ash Teenager Says It’s Not Fair to Burden His Generation with Woking’s Debt

It appears that a 16-year-old possesses a greater understanding of current realities than all the elected officials in Surrey and Hampshire, especially considering that historical boundaries no longer align with modern housing developments.

Regarding Woking’s significant and seemingly irrational debt, one might question the prudence of allowing their staff members to, in future, manage Guildford’s finances, or rather, West Surrey’s finances.

This proposed reorganization is likely to result in a serious financial setback. The immediate challenge of not having a suitable venue to accommodate the large number of elected officials suggests that the first order of business will be to acquire, lease, or construct a new, larger council chamber. This will incur further expenditure.

Will an early required action, next year, be calling in auditors, suitably on April 1st? What a joke to be played on the people of West Surrey!
