Letter: Update on a Pharmacy for Burpham

King’s Parade Burpham

From Adam Heilbron

Conservative candidate for Burpham in the 2023 GBC elections

In response to: What Ever Happened to the Proposed Burpham Pharmacy?

In Burpham, I understand that there may have been challenges finding vacant premises within the area where permission was granted (Kingpost Parade). The permission was granted following an appeal in April 2024 and the frequent lobbying of our former MP Angela Richardson (the decision document can be found here).

I contacted the NHS ICB [Integrated Care Board] in late 2024 about the details of the permission and they confirmed that it allows for a pharmacy to open before the end of this year.

In the meantime, the good news we have locally is that signage has gone up at the former Boots Pharmacy in Merrow Park for a new Pharmacy and Travel Clinic due to open in the Autumn, which will help to improve the situation locally and reduce the pressure on nearby pharmacies in the town, on Epsom Road and in Send.

Permission was granted by the local NHS for a new pharmacy in the old Boots site in May 2024, following community support and again frequent lobbying by our former MP.
