Letter: We Risk Losing the Best Qualities of Guildford

From M Durant

In response to: £86 Million Development Plan Submitted for Guildford Park Road

While redevelopment is welcome in the the Guildford Park Road area, Guildford faces serious challenges: rising population pressures, scarce affordable housing, the Woking debt, and costly, unreliable transport.

New builds from the co-living studios on Portsmouth Road to luxury flats off London Road are priced beyond reach for most residents. Meanwhile, London suburbs offer cheaper rents, better train services, and easier access to jobs. On top of this, everyday prices in Guildford are already very high, adding further strain on local residents.

If the countryside here is built over and congestion worsens, we risk losing the very qualities that make Guildford worth living in.
