Rugby is a contact sport and inevitably players sustain injuries. Mount Alvernia Hospital has the facilities to quickly scan injured limbs and diagnose problems.
So a partnership between the two organisations seems a logical step and this is what has been announced. It will, it is claimed, support the promotion of grassroots sport in Guildford.
The partnership is set to run throughout Guildford Rugby Club’s 2026/7 season and will include financial, medical, and community-focused support for GRC’s players and the wider community.
As part of the agreement, the 40+ bed private hospital has promised to offer the club’s men and women first teams direct and fast access to its medical services where required, including the latest imaging technology and diagnostics. Exclusive branding and logos of the hospital will also be advertised at all home games.
Founded in 1922, the rugby club has long been committed to advancing grassroots sport and now encompasses 1,000 social and playing members. The partnership aims to further the club’s reach and presence within local community.
Rob Newnes-Smith, chair of Guildford Rugby Club, said the hospital’s values closely align to those of Guildford rugby, particularly around its high standards of care, expertise, and commitment to health and wellbeing.
He said, ‘This collaboration marks an important step forward in strengthening the support network around our players, members, and wider community.”
Leon Newth, Interim Executive Director of Mount Alvernia Hospital, also expressed eagerness towards the partnership.
“We look forward to working closely with the club to provide expert medical support and engage with the wider community. From all of us here at Mount Alvernia Hospital, we wish the Guildford Rugby the very best of luck for the season ahead.”
