The star attraction to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the Surrey County Show on bank holiday Monday, May 26, will be the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery Musical Drive.
Over the last 60 years, the show at Stoke Park, Guildford has developed into the biggest one-day agricultural show in the country. It is a wonderful family day out where you can see beautifully presented livestock, milking parlours and shearing sheds, sheep pens and duck ponds. There are fun classes for pigs and dogs and a new class for retrained racehorses.
There is a strong focus on local food with celebrity chefs in the food theatre, a full line-up of ring entertainment, a major horse show and loads of shopping.
The King’s Troop Musical Drive is one of the most exciting arena displays in the world and the show has good reason to be in celebratory mood. Three years ago its stewards and volunteers won the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for voluntary service by groups in the community. And on January 1 this year, Surrey County Agricultural Society’s chief executive Sonia Ashworth was made an MBE for her services to farming.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the show following the amalgamation in 1954 of two smaller agricultural societies founded in the early 19th century.
Discounted tickets are available online at www.surreycountyshow.co.uk. Adults £13.50 (£17 on show day), Seniors £10 (£13 on day), child £5.50 (£6 on day), families £34.50 (£40 on day).
