Man Charged With Murder Over Alleged Assault Outside Social Club

A man has been charged with the murder of Guildford man Richard Stroud, 46, following an alleged assault outside Guildford City Social Club in Joseph’s Road, on Saturday night, January 3.

Matthew Boyd, 32, of Waverley Road, London SE18 has been charged with murder, assault (grievous bodily harm) and assault (actual bodily harm).

He has been remanded in custody and is appearing at South East Surrey Magistrates’ Court, Redhill today (Monday, January 5). He is expected to appear at Guildford Crown Court tomorrow (Tuesday).

Police officers were called to Joseph’s Road at around 10pm on Saturday, January 3, after three men were assaulted. At 4.55am on Sunday, January 4, one of the men died at St George’s Hospital in Tooting..
