Man Suspected of Introducing a Computer Virus, Arrested

Feature Surrey police badge 3A 39-year-old Guildford man has been arrested on suspicion of introducing a computer virus into computer systems managed by a Surrey IT company.

The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) made the arrest on Wednesday (August  13) following a warrant issued under the Computer Misuse Act.

The suspected offences relate to unauthorised access with intent to commit or facilitate commission of further offences under Section 2 of the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

He was also arrested on suspicion of unauthorised acts with intent to impair, or with recklessness as to impairing the operation of computers under the Section 3 of the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

The offences took place between November 2013 and May 2014 against a Surrey-based IT company.

The arrested man has been released on bail until October 13.
