Moped Rider Dies Following Collision in Effingham

Police have cordoned off Lower Road in Effingham while a road traffic accident is investigated.

A female moped rider in her 50s was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after a road traffic accident which occurred in Lower Road near the Howard of Effingham School at around 9.30am this morning (January 9, 2019).

The collision also involved a blue BMW estate and a blue Volkswagen Beetle.

No one else was injured as a result of the collision. The air ambulance was despatched to the scene. Confirmation of the fatality was delayed while next of kin were informed.

One of the drivers, a 31-year-old woman from Epsom, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in custody.

The road remains closed and diversions are in place.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Effingham this morning.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, particularly anyone with any dashcam footage, is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident reference PR/P19006368.”
