More than 400 donated presents for children have been delivered by Guildford Borough Council’s community wellbeing team, who are based at The Hive community centre in Park Barn.

The council says it is “really grateful to local schools and organisations who donated the presents to support our local communities”.

Members of Guildford Borough Council’s community wellbeing team have been busy delivering the presents.

These include Guildford High School, the Royal Grammar School, Guildford Lions Club and staff at the Artington Park and Ride vaccination centre.

It adds that in total 175 families, who are struggling with the cost of living, have been supported this year.

Since the start of the project in 2020 the council has delivered more than 1,000 presents.

The leader of Guildford Borough Council and the lead councillor for community and housing, Julia McShane, said: “For some of our families these presents are the only gifts they will be able to give their children this year.

“We are so lucky to live in a community where there is a strong sense of giving. We are enormously thankful to the schools and organisations that have supported us with their donations this year.

In its press release, the council added a quote from a Guildford mother of two who received presents, and who said: “I would like to thank the schools in Guildford that have put a present under the tree for my two young children.

You will be making my toddler so happy to play with his trucks and my daughter to be painting her arts and crafts.

“We are wishing you all a merry Christmas with your families. I am so thankful to The Hive team for their work and kindness. It means a lot, thank you.”
