Guildford Museum is inviting people to share their memories of life in the borough for a project called Your Stories, Your Museum.

Memories sought include topics such as the growing up and schooldays, the war years, leisure, royal and other events, how Guildford has changed and its personalities.

Drop-in events are taking place where people can chat to staff, volunteers and contribute to the project.

They are:

• Wednesday, August 16, 10am to 4pm – The Friary Centre, Guildford
• Monday, August 28, 1pm to 5pm – Normandy Village Fete – Normandy Manor Fruit Farm
• Saturday, September 9, Heritage Open Days – Guildford Castle Grounds

The council-run museum says that the memories people share will help shape the future of the future of the museum and tell the story of the borough through its future exhibitions.

Cllr Nelson-Smith, lead councillor for social welfare, heritage and the arts said: “We will be hosting more events with the local community over the coming year as we develop our project to identify the big Guildford stories that we want to tell. We will also be trying out new ways to display objects and asking people to help us test what works best – keep an eye on our website for more details of how to get involved soon.”

The Your Stories, Your Museum project is funded by Arts Council England. The council says that it forms part of the museum’s plans to transform the existing site and create a lively community museum for the 21st century.
