Notice: All-Female Vocal Group To Showcase Female Composers In Festive Concert

Surrey’s all-female professional vocal group Corra Sound will come together with virtuoso clarinettist and composer Emma Johnson for a  festive concert at St Mary’s Church in Quarry Street, Guildford on Saturday, November 27.

Members of the all-female Corra Sound.

Entitled ‘Songs of Celebration’ the concert will showcase works from a wide range of predominantly female composers. Amy Bebbington, Founder and Director of Corra Sound, says: “Born in Surrey, Corra Sound is made up of singers, instrumentalists, composers, conductors and mums from in and around the county. It’s our collective mission to illuminate the works of female composers who write brilliantly for women’s voices.

We are honoured to be joined by Emma Johnson for what promises to be a wonderful start to the festive season.”

Having burst onto the professional music scene with a performance of Ruth Gipps’ ‘Goblin Market’ with the Royal Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra at Boxgrove Priory in March 2020, the pandemic forced Corra Sound off stage, as was the case with so many choral ensembles.

Re-emerging this year, Corra Sound is living up to its ethos of celebrating talented, often little-known female composers with this festive concert, featuring works by Elizabeth Poston, Winnie Bruckner, Sarah Quartel, Anna-Maria Kähärä, Eleanor Daley, alongside Emma Johnson, Amy Bebbington and Clare Wheeler.

Singers from the Sir William Perkins’s School Chamber Choir, one of Amy Bebbington’s numerous choirs in the local area, will also be performing in some of the works.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.
