Described in the Sunday Times as “part documentary, part animation, pure magic”, the film, Liyana tells the story of five children in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) who turn their past traumas into an original tale about a girl called Liyana.
The film weaves an animated journey together with poetic documentary scenes to create an inspiring story, perseverance and hope.
Profits from the film showing will go to the Guildford and Godalming grandmothers group 4Gs for Africa.
It is the only UK branch affiliated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which works to support grandmothers left to care for their grandchildren when their parents have died from Aids, active in several African countries.
Liyana will be screened at Guildford’s Electric Theatre on Sunday, December 4 at 4pm. Tickets can be bought online here or by calling the box office on 01483 501200.
