The family of a two-year-old girl is holding a fundraising ball to raise money for a life-changing operation.
Millie was born 11 weeks early in 2015. At 15 months old, she was diagnosed with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, a condition marked by tense muscles and leg spasms – legs in particular tend to be extremely tight and over time, this causes joints to stiffen, reducing the range of motion.
Since being diagnosed, Millie has come on leaps and bounds with help from her physiotherapist and can now roll over, sit unaided and crawl.
Millie needs an operation which isn’t routinely funded through the NHS. Although there is no cure for cerebral palsy, it is hoped that the operation – selective dorsal rhizotomy – will enable Millie to walk unaided and to live a more independent life.
The family has organised events throughout the year to help raise funds for the operation and for intensive physiotherapy after.
The main fundraising event will be Millie’s Grand Ball, which will be held at the Holiday Inn in Guildford on Saturday, July 28.
Tickets cost £20, and include a strip of five raffle tickets.
Welcome drinks will be served from 6pm, with a buffet starting at 7.30pm.
During the evening there will be live entertainment, a silent auction and Millie’s Mystery Draw.
Tickets can be purchased at Spirit Health Club, located inside the Holiday Inn on Egerton Road or by emailing milliesmassivemilestones@gmail.com.
