Guildford Lido will reopen on Monday, March 29.

A spokesperson for Freedom Leisure, the not-for-profit leisure trust which manages the popular pool, said it will start with the opening of the 50m pool for cold water pre-season lane swimming.

These will be one hour sessions and are bookable online. Slow, medium and fast lanes will be offered so everyone is catered for.

Freedom Leisure said that bookings are now live and with restricted numbers per session, it expects demand to be high.

Members of Friends of Guildford Lido (FOGL) will be among the first to take the plunge along with Ivan Horsfall Turner, Freedom Leisure’s managing director.

The managing director of Guildford Borough Council, James Whiteman, and its leisure services manager, Jonathan Sewell, will be there on Monday at the opening.

Ivan Horsfall Turner thanked the borough council for its support over the last 12 months and also to FOGL for “their ongoing support and their input to our re-opening plans”.

The Friends of Guildford Lido said: “We are delighted to see the lido adapt during the current challenging times, continuing to provide enjoyment and health benefits, to tens of thousands of visitors.”

In line with government guidance, there will be no access to the changing cubicles (except for disabled people), therefore swimmers should arrive “beach ready”.

There are plans to erect a marquee that will be available for post swimming. Toilets will be available for all users.

Again, in line with government guidance, takeaway refreshments can be bought and enjoyed on site.

The Workshop gym will reopen from April 12, subject to Government guidelines, and all changing cubicles for the pool and gym will be available from this date.

The grounds will re-open allowing lane swimmers and visitors to enjoy the space while following the Rule of six or household bubbles.

From May 17, public swimming will return in line with the government road map, and the slides and paddling pools will reopen. Season tickets will also go on sale from Monday, March 29.
