One of Guildford’s musical highlights during the festive season will be taking place once again on Sunday, December 12, when the Mayor of Guildford’s Christmas Concert returns to Holy Trinity Church, starting at 7pm.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Guildford, this annual concert is now in its 70th year and will once again feature Guildford’s Vivace Chorus, under the baton of their musical director Jeremy Backhouse, as well as seasonal readings by members of the choir.

Besides all the usual well-known hymns and carols, the Vivace Chorus will also be performing musical arrangements of seasonal works by David Willcocks, John Rutter, and Bob Chilcott.

Every year the mayor’s concert attracts capacity audiences to Holy Trinity Church and raises much-needed funds for local charities, supported by the Mayor of Guildford during their mayoral year.

The charity benefiting from this year’s concert will be The Mayor of Guildford’s Local Support Fund, which provides assistance for local people who struggle to make ends meet on a daily basis and who need the most basic items which most of us take for granted.

A retiring collection will also take place at the end of the concert for the mayor’s personal chosen charity, the Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice.

Set up in 1994, this charity supports more than 700 children and their families throughout Surrey and across 15 boroughs in London, 365 days a year.

it cares for babies, children and young people with life- limiting conditions from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement, with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

Tickets for the concert are priced at £13 for adults and £8 for children, available in advance from Guildford’s Tourist Information Centre at 155 High Street, Guildford, online at www.visitguildford.com or by calling 01483 444334, or on the door on the night.
