Until destroyed by fire in 1966, the 17th-century Newark Mill was an imposing landmark on the River Wey close by Newark Priory.
A mill had stood on this site since Anglo-Saxon times and its destruction, never to be rebuilt, was then, and still remains a great loss to Surrey both architecturally and historically.
Send & Ripley History Society has put together photos and drawings some never seen before, and has also a lovely model of Newark Mill. You can even try your hand at grinding corn!
The exhibition is open on Saturdays, 10am to noon, and by appointment. Tel: 01483 728546.
The museum is located off Ripley High Street, behind the new village hall, GU23 6AF.
