The Sidney Sime Gallery in Worplesdon houses a major collection of the fascinating and highly characteristic work of the artist, illustrator and caricaturist Sidney Sime.
Between Friday, September 8 and Sunday, September 10, the Gallery will be hosting a series special events for Guildford Heritage Weekend.
The gallery in Worplesdon Memorial Hall was purpose-built in 1956 to exhibit over 800 drawings, paintings and caricatures of Simes’ day. Simes lived in Worplesdon from 1904 until his death in 1942, when his widow bequeathed his work to the Trustees of Worplesdon Memorial Hall.
At 2pm on Saturday, Tim Dolby and Mary Broughton will talk about Sime’s Philosophical approach post-World War One. At 3pm, there will be a tour of St Mary’s church and a visit to Sime’s grave led by Dr Anthony Hillard.
At 2pm on Sunday, local caricatures will be revealed by Stephen Cranstone in a talk entitled Men of the New Inn Pub.
Worplesdon Memorial Hall is on Perry Hill, GU3 3RF. Parking is available.
Heritage Weekend opening times on Friday, from 2pm to 4pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
