Guildford Lions logoThe talk, online via Zoom, will raise funds for the Guildford Lions Club, and is on Wednesday, October 13, starting at 7.30pm.

Vic says: “Most people do not appreciate that Moss was a very good rally driver as well as a racing driver. He did the Monte Carlo Rally (2nd) and Alpine Rally (Coupe d’Or) as well as many others in a variety of cars competing against the best in the world.

“He is best known for driving Sunbeam Talbots and Alpines, but he also drove an Aston Martin, his own Jaguar 120XK, Mercedes Benz Gullwings, Saab, and MGBs.

“Many people know of his terrible crash at Goodwood, but on an endurance rally he nearly died of dehydration in the Sahara Desert and was very lucky to be rescued.”

Tickets are £10 and available from Eventbrite using this link: https://stirlingmosszoomguildfordlions.eventbrite.co.uk/

All the proceeds from Vic’s talk will go to the club’s activities supporting the local community.

Vic also gives talks on a number of topics, including his career as an environmental health officer; the Isle of Man, where he was born; his passion for car rallying; plus talks on a number of regions of Australia, and Tasmania; and also the Inca Trail.

Moss’ victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia deserves its own presentation if not included in this one. It was a unique event, the likes of which hasn’t been seen for years and which will never be replicated. And Moss’ navigator, Dennis Jenkinson, wrote the all-time classic motor racing book about the event, one of my boyhood favourites, an unforgettable reading experience.
