Notice: The Guildford Institute Is Seeking A New Honorary Treasurer

Updated on: 30 Jan, 2019

The Guildford Institute is a popular local educational charity which promotes and delivers a wide range of social and cultural courses and events to adults in the heart of Guildford.

We operate from an attractive grade II listed building and act as a community hub to many local clubs and societies.

We began life in 1834 as a mechanics institute and have a long history of delivering educational courses and other learning opportunities to local people who are at the heart of what we do.

We are now looking for an Honorary Treasurer with an accountancy background to join our small and dedicated Board of Trustees and to help guide and advise us on financial matters.

We have an Institute Manager who, together with her small staff team, is responsible for administration and the day-to-day financial work, utilising QuickBooks for accounting purposes.

As a member of the Trustee team, the Treasurer contributes to the development of strategy and overall direction of the Institute.

Whilst finance is a responsibility of all Trustees, the Treasurer’s role is key to its professional oversight on behalf of our charity through the provision of termly accounts for the Board, and offering the Manager advice and reassurance on all aspects of our financial management, reporting, controls and compliance.

Trustees are also Board Directors of the charity which operates as a company limited by guarantee.

This is a voluntary position and the anticipated time is in the region of three to four days per month.

A role specification is available upon request. If you would like any further information, please contact Amy Rice, the Institute Manager, or Sandra Robinson, the Chairperson, via the details below:
