The arrival of Spring, the lyrical song of the lark in flight, and the spiritual power of the Mass combine in this concert for choir, organ, and solo violin with music by Vaughan Williams, Mazzoli, and Bach, all chosen to suit the resonant acoustic of the Cathedral.
The choir will be accompanied by virtuoso organist Philip Scriven, who will also perform Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor.
Internationally renowned violinist Elizabeth Cooney joins the choir for a version of Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending for mixed choir and solo violin, as well as playing the Mazzoli Vespers for Violin and Bach’s Violin Sonata No 1 in G Minor.
Here Elizabeth speaks about the concert, and why she hopes it will provide a space for reflection for the audience, and bring some peace in our current very troubled times.
The concert closes with Vaughan Williams’ haunting and ethereal Mass in G Minor interspersed with movements from the Bach Violin Sonata.
The supported charity for this concert is Oakleaf, which works in mental health and is based in Guildford.
Tickets, from £18 to £22 (students £5 and under 16s free, subject to conditions), are available on the choir’s website, here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/waverleysingers
