Pedestrian Killed in Merrow – Police Appeal for Witnesses

A pedestrian who was struck by a bus on Sunday (September 10) died at the scene, Surrey Police have reported.

According to the police report, the incident occurred at 10.13pm on Park Lane in Merrow between the junctions with Hareward Road and Kingfisher Drive close to the point where a footpath running from Gilliat Drive meets Park Lane.

Police officers attended the along with paramedics, but sadly the pedestrian was pronounced dead. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The bus driver remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “We are now appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision between a bus and a pedestrian.

“As part of our investigation, we are appealing to anyone who may have seen the movements of the victim prior to the collision. He is believed to have walked from Merrow Street to Park Lane and was in the area from around 7.30pm.”

The pedestrian is described as an 86-year-old man and was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the side and a navy jacket. He also had a black backpack with a red front and was using a walking stick.

The spokesperson continued: “If you are a resident of the area and have video doorbell or CCTV footage that may have captured him, or if you witnessed the collision itself, please contact us quoting PR/45230101982.”
