Today Guildford, once again hosted a “Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride”.
According to the official website, 350 riders participated in the event and had raised, so far, almost £20,000.
The rides are intended to unite classic and vintage style motorcycle riders at venues all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.
Participating was British fitness coach, TV presenter, social media personality Joe Wicks, who did the TV PE sessions during the Covid lockdowns. He champions mental health.
Founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa the rides were inspired by a photo of TV Show Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit.
Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives.
Photographer Mandy Millyard who took all the photos in this article said: “It was a heady mix of classic and vintage motorbikes, a lot of tweed, and riders of all ages.
Over 300 gentlefolk met up before making their way to Brook, Surrey.
Another distinguished gent rider turns into Market Street before heading off on the route through the Surrey Hills.
The roar of the engines, at 10am, as they then made their way from the High Street and along Market Street was exhilarating”
Rides are happening today (May 22) in cities all over the world, and, since its beginnings, they have raised over £25 million for these causes.
Riders didn’t need the White Stuff but the right stuff! Tweed, facial hair, neckties, boots; anything a gentleman farmer might have perhaps worn in the first half of the twentieth century.
