A shop assistant in Tongham was threatened with violence in a robbery on Friday (July 20, 2018).
The robbery took place at Tongham Food and Wine on Oxenden Road.
A man entered the shop shortly before 4.20pm and demanded that the member of staff open the till, threatening her with violence if she did not comply
He made off with around £200 in cash leaving the store through the main exit before, it is believed, running across Oxenden Road and into Carfax Avenue.
The suspect is described as white, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 6ft tall and of a slim build with blue eyes. He was wearing distinctive light blue jeans, a dark Puffa-style jacket, a black balaclava which was covering his face, and dark shoes.
Detective Constable Richard Pegden, who is investigating this incident, said: “This was a frightening incident for the member of staff.
“Thankfully, incidents of this nature are rare, but I would like to remind shop staff to always put their personal safety first.
“There is a strong possibility the suspect is local to the Tongham area, and I am appealing for any drivers who were using the Oxenden Road around the time of the incident, or anyone with any information, to contact the police.
“We have released a CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with the offence. While we appreciate that you cannot see his face, we are hoping that the clothes worn by this individual and the current weather conditions, would have meant he stood out at the time.”
Surrey Police say anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference number PR/45180077471.
Alternatively information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
