Power Cut Knocks Out Guildhall Clock – Specialist Called In

Guildford’s iconic clock that hangs from the Guildhall over the High Street has temporarily stopped.

The hands on the Guildhall clock have temporarily stopped moving.

Yesterday (April 19) the clock’s hands were stuck at twenty five minutes past eight.

The reason is understood to have been a power cut that affected the Guildhall on Monday this week.

Since 2012 the clock has been wound by an electric autowind system and the power cut has affected this.

It is hoped normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Asked to comment, a spokesperson for Guildford Borough Council said: “We have requested a site visit from the specialist contractor Smith of Derby to come out and rectify the matter.”
