Ray’s On The Run To Raise Money For Seeability’s Denecroft Residential Home

Running marathons is something Ray Languish is use to. He has run more than 40, but for this year’s London Marathon he’ll be in fancy dress for the first time.

Ray Langrish is running this year’s London Marathon in this outfit, raising funds for Seeability’s Denecroft residential home in Guildford.

Ray, aged 68, lives in Bellfields and can often see seen pounding the streets while in training. He also volunteers for the charity Seeability at its Denecroft residential home in Denmark Road, Guildford.

He is running to raise funds for Denecroft while wearing an orange tu tu, cape and a blue wig.

Seeability was the chosen charity at last year’s switching on of Guildford’s Christmas lights. On the night it held a competition for children who were asked to draw an outfit they would like Ray to wear.

There were two winners, and their designs have been combined for the costume. Ray says the wig is going to be hot, but he does not fear!

He started running back in the 1980s, and among the 40-plus marathon he has run, 18 of those have been the London Marathon; while he has run around 200 half-marathons.

Take a look at the You Tube clip below made by That’s TV Surrey of Ray talking about running this year’s London Marathon (April 22).

Denecroft is home to up to six adults with a range of disabilities. It specialises in supporting and assisting people with sight loss. It aims to excel as a specialist provider of quality care and support, ensuring the people it supports are at the heart of everything it does.

Ray is also a keen supporter of Guildford City Football Club. He helps out on its promotional stand at Guildford’s Farmers’ Market and at other local events, with his pals Alan Wyle, Brian Holt and Dennis May.

Ray takes one of Denecroft’s residents to matches and he and his fellow supporters give a running commentary.

The two young winners of the competition also went to see Guildford City play last week and were pictured with the players.

Many Guildford people will probably recognise Ray (when not in costume) as for many years he was a bus conductor with Aldershot & District and then Safeguard Buses. He later worked for Royal Mail and Sainsbury’s.

He is hoping to raise in the region of £1,500. To sponsor him send an email to: ray.langrish@gmail.com or phone him on 01483 374087. Or contact him via his Facebook page.
