With glitzy costumes and a pumping soundtrack an Evening With The Stars From Strictly Come Dancing was an upbeat and fun evening of entertainment at G Live on Sunday evening (Jun 2). It starred Pasha Kovalev and Katya Visrhilas.

‘Glitzy costumes… Exquisite dancing…’

The format of the show followed more of a variety route than a traditional dance show with compere Mike Newman whipping the audience up into a frenzy (or at the very least some polite clapping, this is Guildford after all!) and additional dance routines performed by Lindsey Muckle and Ryan Hammond.

Aside from the set pieces which all fall under the umbrella of ‘Hollywood’ there were two chances for audience interaction with a question and answer session and also a Generation Game style section in which audience members get the chance to try their hand at a Paso Doble routine.

Local children from The Joanna School of Dance also featured with two showcase segments choreographed to demonstrate the range of talents within the school.

The dancing from Pasha and Katya was, as you would expect exquisite and they demonstrate with ease exactly why they are in such demand. The waltz set to the Twilight theme was beautifully sensitive and contrasted with their other punchier choices including The Cell Block Tango from the musical Chicago.

Whilst this was a lovely evening, for the serious dance enthusiast there is perhaps not as much material as you might expect, however ending with the Grease mega-mix is almost always guaranteed to bring the house down!
