Royal Surrey Appoints New Chief Exec

Paula Head, the Royal Surrey’s new chief exec due to start work in the autumn.

The Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH) has appointed a new chief executive, Paula Head. She will take up her appointment in the autumn.

Ms Head, a pharmacist, was formerly the chief executive at the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and a director at Frimley Park Hospital, took part in a competitive recruitment process.

In a press release at RSCH spokesperson said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Paula Head as our new chief executive.

“Paula is a proficient NHS leader with board experience in both the acute trust and community setting. She is committed to the delivery of high quality health and social care and will use her clinical and accounting experience to develop and deliver successful strategic, financial and high quality healthcare services.

“In her most recent role as chief executive at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, Paula transformed the way community and acute providers work together to drive high quality patient care across the patient journey. She also saw the trust through their successful application to achieve Foundation Trust status.

“As Frimley Park Hospital’s Director of Transformation, she delivered strategic organisational change, including key efficiencies and service improvements.”

John Denning, Chairman, RSCH said: “Paula boasts a great strategic awareness and shrewd understanding of the complex challenges facing the NHS both in the short and longer terms.

“Her combination of skills and experience will play a fundamental role in leading the Royal Surrey through its financial turnaround and adoption of the sustainability and transformation plan.”

Paula Head added: “I’m really excited to be joining the team at Royal Surrey. We have a lot do and I am looking forward to working with people from across the organisation to create an effective vision that will inspire excellence.

“I plan to join Royal Surrey in the autumn when we can build upon the good work that is already underway.”

    The new RSCH chief executive may have to start with a bit of a handicap.

    There is the £5m that was squandered on the totally un-viable Royal Surrey County and St Peters/Ashford merger.

    This money would have helped her to reduce the deficit this year.
