A healthcare assistant at the Royal Surrey County Hospital has been named a finalist in a national nursing competition.

Robert Bryant has been shortlisted in the healthcare assistant category of the prestigious RCNi Nurse Awards 2016 for his work in the Coronary Care Unit and Cardiac Ward.

Robert was nominated for the accolade by his manager, who described him as a ‘shining star’ for going the extra mile for both patients and his colleagues.

As part of the judging process he was invited to London to face a panel of nursing professionals, who quizzed him on his contribution to Royal Surrey’s team and the difference this makes to patients care.

Robert faces stiff competition from four other candidates and will find out if he has won the award at a special black tie ceremony at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel on May 9.

Robert said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been shortlisted in the RCNi Nurse Awards.

“At the Royal Surrey, we all strive to deliver the best care anywhere and I’m very proud that my contribution to this has been recognised.

“I have great support from my team on the coronary care unit and am committed and passionate about the work that I do.

“It’s always delightful to receive a personal mention in positive feedback from patients I have cared for, but nursing is a team effort so this is really a reflection of the excellent care we give on the coronary care unit and at the Royal Surrey.”

Louise Stead, chief operating officer and director of nursing and patient experience, said: “This is an excellent achievement for Robert and testament to his hard work and commitment to deliver outstanding patient care.

“We will have our fingers crossed when the winner are announced in May.”
