Planning is underway at the Royal Surrey County Hospital (RSCH) in the event that a full walkout by junior doctors should occur later this month, April 26-27, as announced by the British Medical Association.
The junior doctors are disputing conditions in their new contracts which has been imposed by the government after earlier negotiations broke down.
A RSCH spokesperson said: “Since the recent industrial action concluded we expect to remain busy. We would ask people to continue to choose wisely and keep A&E for those who really need it. We would also like to remind people that they can receive non-emergency help from their GP, pharmacist, NHS111 telephone service, and the local walk-in-centre.”
During the 48-hour period of industrial action (April 6-7) the hospital reports that, due to their contingency plans, 2,205 outpatients appointments went ahead as planned.
In total, 190 outpatients appointments and 54 surgical procedures were postponed.
The spokesperson said: “Those patients who have been affected will have their appointments/ operations rescheduled as soon as possible.”
