Family-owned and long established Safeguard Coaches of Guildford will introduce a new bus timetable from December 3 for its services to Park Barn, the Royal Surrey Hospital and Aldershot Road.
It is also providing a ‘hospital shuttle’ service from the town centre and Guidlford railway station to provide the quickest and most direct access for staff and visitors going to the hospital.
The direct hospital service will run very seven to 10 minutes between 6am and 9pm on weekdays, every 30 minutes between 6.30am and 9pm on Saturdays and every 30 minutes between 8am and 5pm on Sundays.
The service aims to provide a real alternative to using the car to visit the hospital for visitors and staff members alike.
Safeguard is working proactively with the hospital to make sure that the new service is promoted well, that staff take-up is encouraged and there is a jointly produced a credit-card sized, hospital service timetable leaflet to support this.
At the same time the firm, which won gold and bronze at the UK Bus Awards in 2015, will also reduce the price of monthly tickets, to encourage and reward longer term commitment to using the bus.
Safeguard Coaches’ managing director Andrew Halliday said: “We know that the hospital’s 3,500 staff, 280,000 annual outpatients and 70,000 patients plus visitors all have a terrible time trying to find suitable parking at the hospital and that a frequent and direct bus service from the town centre and train station just makes sense.
“We expect that the additional services and even better value monthly fares will encourage workers and visitors to use our buses, particularly at times when there is significant traffic congestion in and around Guildford.”

Thank you Safeguard for recognising this need.
As always, a company which puts the needs of the community and the environment foremost.

Congratulations to Andrew Halliday on launching a wonderful service to the community and to the Royal Surrey County Hospital staff and outpatients.
Let’s hope it eases the strain on the hospital parking which is so expensive. This is a great new service to everyone who has to visit the hospital via a train to Guildford.
Well done Safeguard!

Once again Safeguard has listened to the needs of the people.
A lesson that some of our elected representatives should learn.
