George Abbot School’s Year 12 choir joined homeowners and staff at McCarthy and Stone’s new Guildford development, The Clockhouse, to “raise the roof” for the Royal Voluntary Service.

The Sing Your Heart Out event at the development on London Road was one of a series of musical performances that have been taking place up and down the country to raise funds for the older people’s charity. The event at The Clockhouse continued celebrations for McCarthy and Stone’s 40th anniversary.

In 1977, the housebuilder opened its very first retirement development. To honour this milestone, McCarthy and Stone has partnered with the Royal Voluntary Service on a series of fundraising initiatives throughout 2017, with the aim of raising over £130,000 in support of projects across the the UK.

Georgina Akers, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone South East, and house manager at The Clockhouse, said: “Our Sing Your Heart Out event was a huge success; the choir was in fine voice and it was great to hear everyone joining in with a fantastic repertoire of festive favourites. It really was an uplifting afternoon, and it was wonderful to be able to show our support for the Royal Voluntary Service in this way.

“We have had a superb year of fundraising so far as part of our anniversary celebrations, and Sing Your Heart Out was another example of this. McCarthy and Stone is dedicated to enhancing our homeowners’ lives in so many different ways, so it made perfect sense to support a charity during our 40th year which shares our values.  It has been very rewarding to watch the fundraising total increase over the last 12 months, and to have played a part in this success.”

Tasha Collin, Year 12 Student from George Abbot School, said: “Singing for the homeowners of The Clockhouse was an amazing opportunity. It was very fun to sing for them, and very rewarding to know that they enjoyed listening as much as we enjoyed singing. I hope to do something like this again sometime.”

McCarthy and Stone add: “Comprising a selection of 50 one- and two-bedroom apartments, designed for people aged 70 and over, The Clockhouse provides everything homeowners could want for a relaxing retirement. All those who make the development their home can enjoy an active, independent lifestyle, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when desired and privacy when needed.

“Homeowners can make the most of the beautiful landscaped gardens, knowing all the maintenance is taken care of. They can also feel secure in the knowledge that the estates management team is on hand 24 hours a day to provide any help or support should they need it; and that friends and family can stay over whenever they choose in the development’s comfortable guest suite.

“A fully equipped bistro-style restaurant provides freshly prepared meals daily if homeowners don’t wish to cook in their apartments; and 24-hour emergency call points are in place for added peace of mind for both homeowners and their families.”

Prices start from £406,950 for a one-bedroom apartment and from £532,950 for a two-bedroom apartment.
