School’s Lollipop Lady’s 35 Years Of Devotion

Stoughton Infant School’s lollipop lady has clocked up an impressive 35 years helping children and their families across the road outside the school.

Margaret Mitchell has been Stoughton Infant School’s lollipop lady for 35 years.

Margaret Mitchell started work there on December 13, 1984, and in paying tribute to her the school says her length of service “demonstrates such commitment and devotion to the school and the community it serves”.

The school points out that Margaret always makes time to talk to the children and their families, making sure they go home with a smile on their face.

She never moans about the weather (she actually prefers the chillier months) as she knows the most important aspect of her role is being by the roadside to keep the children safe when crossing Stoughton Road.

Every year Margaret gives up her own time to talk to the children about road safety as part of road safety week in school.

The children love this experience and often talk of it as a fond memory when they move on from the school.
