Join local musicians and authors Mick Douglas and David Rose, plus guitarist Johnny Kelly, at the Keep pub in Castle Street on Monday July 24, from 7.30pm for an interesting talk, with live music, about Guildford’s rich musical history during the 1950s-1960s.
Mick Douglas has played in numerous Guildford bands including Chris Ravel and the Ravers, the Stormsville Shakers, the Crescendos (now the Rockin’ Crescendos), Razzle Dazzle, and many more…
David Rose of Sammy Rat’s Big Big Blues Band (now Sammy Rat and the Resonators) supported numerous big names at Guildford Civic Hall in the 1980s.
He is also the most published author on Guildford’s history with 15 books to date (some co-written with other local history enthusiasts).
He is also a folk-rocker with the Diggers, who occasionally get together for a gig or two. They were active in the 1990s playing many local venues as well as the main stage in the early days of GuilFest.
Entry is free, as usual, just buy a drink to cover the cost of the free food at the interval and drop a few gold coins in the glass to cover the speakers’ costs.
Mick Douglas will also be selling and signing copies of his fantastic autobiography, Division III South – the story of a failed rock star.
The event is being organised jointly by the Keep pub and Ben Darton of Ben’s Collectors Records shop i9n Tunsgate and his Facebook page Guildford Past & Present.
Ben will also be brushing the dust off his drum sticks and will be joining the ‘Guildford legends’ for the live music during the second half of the evening.
