Events will be taking place with military precision at Henley Fort on The Mount, Guildford, this Sunday (September 10) as part of Heritage Open Days weekend.

Built in 1896 as the western post of 13 fortified positions to defend London against a possible invasion by the French, Henley Fort is the most complete of those remaining.

Members of the Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment Re-enactment Society.

Members of the Queen’s (Royal West Surrey) Regiment Re-enactment Society will bring the fort to life with displays of military drill and rifle skills.

The Guildford-based society was founded in 2004, and portrays both the regular and volunteer battalions of one of the British Army’s oldest regiments.

Henley Fort also provides living history experiences of the home front during the Second World War for primary schools and is part of Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development, that offers outdoor learning opportunities for young people.

It will be open from 11am to 3pm, and entry is free, as all the others places of interest across the borough for Heritage Open Days this weekend.

I can recommend this visit as a highlight of Heritage Open Days. The Queen’s Regiment re-enactors put on a magnificent display of drill for their visitors and display Henley Fort to best advantage. Suitable for all the family and free.
