Scores of enthusiastic gardeners, and a dog, braved the cold and dreary weather on Sunday (February 25) to attend the fourth Seedswap held by Guildford Seedbank, a local not-for-profit community association, at the Trinity Centre off Guildford High Street.

Those attending brought 483 packets of seeds which they could swap for free for packets of different vegetables or flowers they wanted to grow. If they wanted more they could donate 50p for each extra packet.
Many of the seeds provided were grown and saved by the members of the Seedbank themselves, in their attempt to provide local people with seed, adapted to local conditions, at a very low price or for free.
After the Seedswap seed will be made available in local libraries, including on the first floor of Guildford Library, and at various local events.
Attendee Fiona Giles said: ” This is the second Seedswap I have been to. I think it’s a great idea, most gardeners have surplus seeds and it is such a shame to waste them.
“I am very happy with the seeds I got: dumpling squash, flat-leafed parsley, multi-headed sunflowers, beetroot, quaking grass, marigolds, lettuce, chard and climbing beans. Spring is nearly here and I am looking forward to sowing them.”
